FILEY Mérida & UC-Mexicanistas Congress

This month, I was privileged to participate in two exciting literary events in Mérida:

• Feria Internacional de la Lectura Yucatán (FILEY)
  FILEY transformed Mérida’s Siglo XXI Convention Center into a playground for bibliophiles, writers, and lovers of culture. Throughout an entire week there were workshops, readings, concerts, and film screenings, which allowed readers, authors, educators, and community members to interact in open dialogue and connection around their literary passions.
•  UC-Mexicanistas XVI International Congress
  Held within the FILEY, the UC-Mexicanistas Congress brought together researchers and writers from Mexico, the United States, and Europe. My conference presentation examined serialized storytelling in Mexico and its role in imagining national identity.

FILEY’s commitment to bilingual and Indigenous voices aligns seamlessly with UC-Mexicanistas’ mission of interdisciplinary and cross-border research. Participating in both FILEY and the UC-Mexicanistas Congress offered a rare blend of public cultural exchange and rigorous academic engagement that brings everyday readers face-to-face with literary creators and scholarship. I was thrilled to contribute to this environment through my presentation of Serial Mexico. I thank fellow scholar and author Roberto Domínguez-Cáceres for his introduction and thoughtful comments on my book, which we presented together in conversation with the audience.
